Born to African expatriates in Toulouse, France, Keziah Makoundou draws on her heritage to depict abstract faces, the black body and the relationship between mother and offspring. Keziah relocated to New York in 2007 after completing a Master’s Degree of Graphic Design and continues to experiment with a variety of rich media. Some of Ms. Makoundou’s work is currently on exhibit through August 31 at Bar Catalonia in New York City. (MORE)

The home page for the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag video game campaign, created by Sid Lee for Ubisoft

Digital agency Sid Lee recently launched a web campaign for video game developer Ubisoft. It’s all part of a project called “Defy History” for Ubisoft’s “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag” video game.

The campaign asks fans to log on to a site, where they see a painting crafted by artists from L’Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris, which features a battle scene from the “Age of Piracy,” the era during which the game is set.

Users can use webcams to “place their faces” on characters from the painting, and the most popular faces will be immortalized on the painting. The final piece of art will be displayed in Le Musée de la Marine this November.

For it’s recently published 2013 Logo Trend Report, GDUSA examined more than 20,000 logos. The world lost a great man, a great actor and a true New Jerseyan yesterday. I was fortunate to have met and worked with James Gandolfini on a photo shoot for New Jersey Monthly magazine in 2004. He was a down-to-earth, genuinely nice guy, unfazed by his stardom in the hit HBO series at the time, The Sopranos. May he rest in peace. (MORE)

Eco Art: Graphic Design for Change

The above poster and 99 others are all part of The 4th Block’s Eco-Poster Competition, currently featured in an exhibition at the Riverside Art Museum in Riverside, California. The posters on display use design as a tool for addressing issues of transportation, air, and water pollution — challenges directly affecting the lives of residents every single day in Southern California.
